Diabetes is a chronic, lifelong disease that has become more widespread in the United States; Georgians are not exempt, with incidences of diabetes 30 percent higher than the national average. Southeast Georgia Health System is committed to increasing awareness and providing comprehensive diabetes education to our patients, their families and the community.
An important component in controlling diabetes is proper self-care. Fortunately, residents of Southeast Georgia who have diabetes have access to the Southeast Georgia Health System Outpatient Diabetes Education Program.
Diabetes Education Program recognized by the American Diabetes Association
The diabetes education programs at the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus and the Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus have been Recognized by the American Diabetes Association for providing Quality Self-Management Education and Support.
Our diabetes education program provides outpatient diabetes self-management training in both group and individual appointments at the Brunswick and Camden campuses. A physician referral is required for participation.
Although diabetes is a very serious disease, it can be kept in check with healthy eating, exercise and medication. The Health System’s diabetes education program helps people with diabetes and their families learn how to cope with this serious disease and stay as healthy as possible.
