Surgical Services
When you have surgery at Southeast Georgia Health System, you can rest
assured knowing that our highly skilled team of physicians, nurses and
other health care staff are equipped with leading-edge technology, and
dedicated to providing you with safe, compassionate, top-quality health care.
We have been an early adopter of new medical technologies and have introduced
advanced surgical techniques to our region so that patients don’t
have to travel outside the area for leading-edge procedures.
Our surgeons are able to perform many procedures using minimally invasive
techniques that offer the benefits of smaller incisions, less pain and
a faster recovery. This includes the
daVinci® Surgical System on our Brunswick Campus, which allows surgeons to perform complex procedures
through tiny incisions with greater precision, dexterity and control.
Your surgery may be performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis depending
on the type of procedure and a variety of other factors including your
overall health. Many surgical procedures can be performed on an outpatient
basis, allowing you to be discharged the same day and providing you with
the education and support you need to recover in the comfort of your own home.
COVID-19 Testing Requirement
Pre-operative COVID-19 testing will only be performed on unvaccinated or
symptomatic patients prior to surgery. This practice applies to all maternity
patients, outpatient procedures/surgeries, and inpatient surgeries.

New Robot on the Block
Healthy Partners, Winter 2022
If you need surgery, Southeast Georgia Health System offers you highly
advanced options, including robotic surgery. And now, local access to
this state-of-the-art technology is expanding with the acquisition of
a new da Vinci® surgical robot. Robotic-assisted surgery allows the
surgeon to perform minimally invasive procedures with unmatched precision
and control. While seated at an adjustable console in the operating room,
the surgeon performs the surgery by controlling the robotic arms that
hold surgical instruments. They insert these instruments into incisions
much smaller than those used in traditional open surgery.

Training Surgeons for Rural Care

Healthy Partners, Winter 2021
J. Ben Pitt, M.D., often rises before the sun, walking from Nunnally House
to the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus to scrub in for
his first case of the day. The young surgeon-in training gains hands-on
experience under direct supervision from Vincent K. Arlauskas, M.D., thanks
to the Rural Surgery Initiative program. Dr. Pitt is the first surgeon
from the Medical College of Georgia to rotate through the surgical residency
program at the Health System.
