CyberKnife vs. Other Radiosurgery Procedures
Traditional cancer treatments often consist of a combination of chemotherapy,
surgery and radiation. Chemotherapy often has adverse side effects, such
as nausea and hair loss. Traditional radiation therapy will harm healthy
tissue surrounding the tumor, often resulting in skin dryness, itching,
blistering or peeling, and traditional tumor removal surgery requires
anesthesia, incisions and stitches, all of which results in a lengthy
recovery after surgery.
CyberKnife treatment’s non-invasive method, on the other hand, allows patients to return to daily living directly following the treatment.
Its image guidance software compensates for patient movement, allowing
for high-dose radiation beams with pinpoint precision, sparing surrounding,
healthy tissue from harm and preventing the adverse side effects typical
of traditional treatments. CyberKnife also provides enhanced comfort during
treatment. Other forms of radiosurgery require uncomfortable, rigid head
frames. In contrast, CyberKnife lets patients relax during treatment without
such uncomfortable restraints.
Take a look at the benefits of CyberKnife:
- Pain free
- No incisions
- No anesthesia
- Outpatient procedure
- Little to no recovery time
- Treats a variety of tumors and cancers
- Five treatments or fewer
- Experienced physicians
CyberKnife vs. CyberKnife M6 Technology
The CyberKnife M6 series features new, multi-leaf collimation (MLC) to
conform radiation beams to match the shape of non-spherical tumors. What
does this means for you? Patients who receive treatment with the new CyberKnife
M6 series will experience all the advantages of the original CyberKnife
Robotic Radiosurgery System with the added benefits of:
- Shorter treatment times
- More tumor sites eligible for treatment, including inoperable or complex tumors
- Enhanced precision in tumor treatment
- Fewer side effects
These benefits make CyberKnife an effective, noninvasive procedure that
can address a wide variety of patient needs and diagnosis. At Southeast
Georgia Health System, our goal is to provide individualized care that
lends itself to timely recovery. With CyberKnife, we can deliver on this promise.
To date, more than 100,000 successful procedures have been performed around
