CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System
Advanced Cancer Treatment in Southeast Georgia
Finding out that you’ve been diagnosed with cancer can be intimidating,
confusing and scary. Our cancer care experts are here for you during this
uncertain time to provide something that is very certain: quality, patient-focused
care to help you fight back. We are passionate about the care we provide
but even more importantly, we are passionate about how we care for you.
With the innovative CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System, our cancer
care team can target cancerous and noncancerous tumors without harming
surrounding healthy tissue. Unlike traditional methods of treating tumors,
CyberKnife produces lasting results without the need for surgery, cutting,
stitches or an extended recovery time, so you can receive cancer treatment
and get back to living your life.

CyberKnife M6 Technology
Southeast Georgia Health System has been treating tumors and cancer patients
with CyberKnife since 2011, but as of November 2017, the Health System
acquired the CyberKnife M6 series, becoming the first and only center
in Georgia to offer the newest CyberKnife technology. This innovative
radiosurgery treatment delivers enhanced precision that shortens treatment
times compared to the original CyberKnife. This enhanced precision is
a result of new, multi-leaf collimation (MLC). The new MLC features a
rectangular head that uses 26 small, thin, leaf pairs to conform radiation
beams to match the shape of non-spherical tumors, producing highly individualized
treatment with tighter margins. In addition to enhanced precision, this
technology also expands the number of tumor sites that can be treated.
Candidates for CyberKnife
Just like every patient has a unique medical history, family history and
risk factors, each tumor is unique as well. Patients who may not be good
candidates for traditional surgery because of their medical history, health
or other medical complications may actually be perfect candidates for
CyberKnife thanks to its noninvasive approach. We are excited to offer
this advanced procedure. In fact, we are one of only four centers in Georgia
to offer CyberKnife treatment and the first and only center in Georgia
to offer the CyberKnife M6 series.

her experience as one of the first patients at Southeast Georgia Health
System treated for breast cancer with the CyberKnife® M6 Robotic Radiosurgery System.
