Women’s Imaging Centers
At Southeast Georgia Health System, we offer specialized
diagnostic services in a warm and caring environment.
Some of our women’s imaging services include:
Digital 3D Mammography
Digital 3D Mammography is still the gold standard for early detection of breast cancer. Our surgeons
and radiologists recommend having a baseline mammogram at the age of 40
but please also discuss this with your physician. Diagnostic mammograms
are used for women who have possible abnormalities that could indicate
cancer or another
breast health problem.

Breast Biopsy
If diagnostic imaging techniques show abnormalities, a breast biopsy may
be needed to determine if it is cancer. Several types of breast biopsy
can be done by Imaging Services, including fine needle and core needle
aspiration.
Breast Ultrasound
Also called sonography,
ultrasound is a painless medical test that uses sound waves to show structure and
movement inside the body. Breast ultrasound can help identify noncancerous
growths and may also be used during breast biopsy. A pregnancy ultrasound
shows how a baby is developing in the womb and pelvic ultrasounds can
detect abnormalities in a woman’s bladder and reproductive system.
DEXA Bone Density Scans
As women age, they become more at risk for developing osteoporosis, a disease
that causes bones to become fragile and break easily. DEXA (dual energy
X-ray absorptiometry) is a state-of-the-art, painless, non-invasive examination
that reveals early loss of bone mass so that treatment of osteoporosis
can begin before a bone is broken.
