Teleka Tillman SGHS Patient Story

When 31-year-old Teleka Tillman moved to Brunswick from Atlanta, she would have preferred to leave behind years of pain from uterine fibroids. Doctors in Atlanta told her that the fibroids were very small and not likely to get bigger. Unfortunately, they were wrong.

Teleka's pain became so severe that she was referred to the Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus for an MRI, which revealed that the fibroids had grown substantially.

Teleka was referred to Mitchell V. Brock, M.D., board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with Southeast Georgia Physician Associates–Obstetrics and Gynecology, a strategic affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System. Dr. Brock recommended a myomectomy and robotic-assisted surgery.

In April 2012, Dr. Brock used the da Vinci® Surgical System to remove Teleka's 21 fibroids. She returned home after only a day and a half. "My recovery was so short. It was a very good experience," she says. "It was eye-opening for me because I initially thought I would have to go back to Atlanta for surgery."

Today, Teleka says she is completely back to normal. "I can bend and stoop and do all the things I could before, and I don't have any pain. I am just so thankful that I was able to find Dr. Brock."
