During the three-day comprehensive camp,
Health System Sports Medicine certified athletic trainers will introduce students entering grades 9-12
to the field of sports medicine and athletic training, and the many associated
career opportunities. Few experiences can better prepare high school students
with an opportunity to pursue athletic training at their high school,
college, or as a career.
“The camp provides students a great opportunity to learn important
fundamentals in sports medicine,” says Chantal Pierre, ATC, certified
athletic trainer, Southeast Georgia Health System Sports Medicine. “They’ll
receive valuable hands-on training, including splinting, taping and injury
prevention. The camp prepares students to return to their school and possibly
work alongside a certified athletic trainer as a student athletic trainer
aide.”
Camp participants receive valuable hands-on training for basic skills and
techniques used in sports medicine, including:
- Injury treatment
- Athletic taping and bracing
- Hands-only CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED)
- First aid
“High school students leave camp with a good understanding of different
careers in sports medicine to possibly carve a pathway for their future,”
says Pierre. “We will discuss multiple sports medicine career options
such as orthopaedic surgeon, physical therapist, nutritionist, physician
assistant, and the benefits of each.”
Student Athletic Trainer Camp takes place June 6-8, 2023, 8:30 a.m.-2:30
p.m., at the Glynn County Stadium, 5 Community Action Drive. Space is
limited; registration and payment is due by May 20, 2023. The cost for
the three-day camp is $85 and includes camp materials, lab supplies, T-shirt,
