Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to welcome
Steven A. Roth, MD, a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, to
Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Obstetrics & Gynecology and the Camden Campus medical staff.
After graduating from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida,
with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Roth earned his medical degree
there as well. He then completed his obstetrician and gynecology residency
at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. During his first
clinical rotation in his third year of medical school, he had the opportunity
to deliver a baby. “I was absolutely blown away by the miracle of
birth and that is what made me decide to pursue obstetrics and gynecology
as my pathway to practicing medicine,” says Roth.
Roth treats all aspects of women’s health, including issues with
menstrual cycles, conception and hormone replacement, as well as surgical
procedures, such as pelvic surgeries, hysterectomies and tubal ligations.
“My particular interest is in incontinence and prolapse surgeries,”
says Roth.
According to Roth, his approach to patient care is to be a good listener.
“I don’t believe in rushing a patient through,” says
Roth. “I believe it’s important to hear my patients’
thoughts and concerns. What really gives me joy is providing my patients
with options, whether surgical or non-surgical, so they can decide which
route they prefer. Some patients may have been to other practices before
I see them and given only one choice on how to address an issue. They
often have no idea what other options are available. When I explain all
their options, they get excited and feel empowered to be part of the decision
making process for their health care,” Roth adds.
“I want my patients to know, first and foremost, that I have their
best interest at heart,” explains Roth. “Secondly, I have
a lot of experience and thirdly, I care about them and I want to do the
very best for them. Even if I cannot provide a particular service, I will
find someone that can address whatever problem they are having.”
Prior to joining the Health System, Roth was a physician at several hospitals
in Australia and New Zealand for 13 years. His most recent appointment
was at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup, Georgia.
In his spare time, Roth enjoys playing golf, fishing, hunting and being
in nature. He also enjoys DIY projects with his wife, Karen, and is in
the process of renovating their home on St. Simons Island.
Roth’s services include annual well-woman visits, cancer screenings,
family planning and birth control management, contraceptive implants and
IUDs, infertility treatments, prenatal care, labor and delivery services,
treatment of pelvic pain and urinary disorders, and management of menopausal symptoms.
Roth joins certified nurse midwives,
