ARTrageous Bras Inspire Creativity and Raise Awareness

Sporting a pink ribbon in October is one way to show support for breast cancer awareness, but designing a fun, quirky or outrageous bra can be a much more exciting way to express your support.
The Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation’s annual ARTrageous Bras event helps to heighten breast health awareness and raise funds for the Health System cancer care programs. Each year, members of the Health System and community donate $25 to the Foundation in exchange for a plain white bra to decorate in a theme of their choosing with fabric, paint, glitter, rhinestones, feathers, and more.
The decorated bras are displayed on the Brunswick and Camden campuses, and photos are posted on the Health System website. Throughout October, votes are collected, at $1 or more, to determine the most favorite bras. As October draws to an end, voting can become quite competitive and rankings often change on a daily basis. Finally, at the end of the month, the Foundation hosts a spirited live auction featuring models wearing the top 10 vote-receiving bras. The remaining bras are displayed for a silent auction.
“ARTrageous is an incredible, attention-grabbing event to increase awareness for breast cancer and raise funds for the Health System’s cancer care programs,” says Krista Robitz, director, Development, Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation. “The creativity is amazing and voting becomes very competitive as individuals and teams try to keep their bras in the top ten for the live auction. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support the Health System and have a good time.”
The number of ARTrageous Bras entries has steadily increased each year, with the 2015 event showcasing 64 beautiful creations and raising more than $18,000. Proceeds benefit the Health System’s cancer care programs.
To participate, or for more information, contact the Health System Foundation at 912-466-3360 or visit sghs.org/ARTrageous for a registration form. A $25 “fitting fee” (entry) includes one white bra; all decorated entries must be on the bra provided by the Foundation and returned by Friday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
