BRUNSWICK, Georgia – October is National Physical Therapy Month and
highlights the goal of physical therapists and physical therapy assistants—to
restore and improve motion in order to stay healthy, fit and active throughout
life. In recognition of the month, Southeast Georgia Health System is
offering a free, four-part brown bag lunch and learn series, “What
Can Your Physical Therapist Do For You?” held each Tuesday in October.
Each session will take place from noon until 1 p.m. in the Outpatient
Rehabilitation Care Center, 2600 Wildwood Ave., across the street from
the Brunswick Campus, and attendees are invited to bring their lunches.
Are You Wearing the Right Shoes? Tuesday, Oct. 4
Anyone experiencing foot, knee or back pain will benefit from this lecture
and will learn what type of ankle/foot posture he or she has and what
type of shoes will offer the best fit.
Do You Have Pain When Sitting At Your Desk? Tuesday, Oct. 11
This lecture was designed for anyone with a desk and/or computer job and
will stress proper posture and body mechanics.
Do You have Unexplained Swelling? Tuesday, Oct. 18
Anyone who is experienced unexplained or post mastectomy swelling in the
limbs is encouraged to attend and learn how to manage the swelling.
Have You Had Any Recent Falls? Tuesday, Oct. 25
The final series lecture is designed for persons 65 and older and their
caregivers. Simple balance exercise and fall prevention skills will be
taught and attendees will receive a personal fall risk score
