Health System Welcomes New General Surgeon

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: May 19, 2010– Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to welcome board-certified general surgeon Damon W. Brantley, M.D. to the Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Camden General Surgery practice.

Brantley received his Bachelor’s degree in biology from Morehouse College in Atlanta before going on to earn his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, where he was a Trauma Research Fellow. Brantley completed his surgery training at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport. Following his surgery training, he completed seven years of active duty as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Brantley, who is also a licensed Missionary Baptist minister, is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as of the well as a member of the National Medical Association and American Medical Association. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a former surgical instructor at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami, Fla., and an advanced trauma life support instructor for the U.S. Army Southeast Regional Command. Brantley has also served as an assistant clinical professor in the Departments of Surgery and Family Practice at the University of Alabama Birmingham. He was most recently in practice as a general surgeon at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn.

He is married to Cynthia Harris and they are the parents of two children, Jasmine and Jordan. Brantley will officially join the Health System on June 1.
