Glynn Family Medicine Center Welcomes New Physician & Family Nurse Practitioner

BRUNSWICK, Georgia: June 30, 2010– Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to welcome family medicine physician Patsy Mitchell, D.O., and family nurse practitioner Diane Ansley, MSN, APRN, to the medical staff of Glynn Family Medicine Center in Brunswick. The two join the Center’s staff of professionals, including board-certified family medicine physician John Blumer, M.D. Mitchell, who is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and took pre-medicine classes at Loyola University Chicago, before completing her medical degree at Midwestern University-Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to finish an internal medicine internship at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill. Mitchell completed her residency in family medicine at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill. Her previous experience includes practicing as a primary care physician and medical director, most recently with Comprehensive Health Services in Lincolnshire, Ill. Mitchell is also a former instructor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. In addition to her medical career, she has volunteered with such organizations as the Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, and the Lions Club. In 2003, she received the American Medical Women’s Association, Inc.’s Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation. Mitchell is relocating to the Golden Isles with her husband, family medicine physician James Lee, D.O., who is joining the medical staff at the Health System’s strategic affiliate Glynco Immediate Care Center in Brunswick.

Ansley completed her Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, before going on to earn a Master’s degree in nursing from Georgia Southern University’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program, Statesboro. She is certified in advanced practice nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a certified diabetes educator. Additionally she holds a certification in advanced practice colposcopy (a common gynecology follow-up for abnormal Pap smears). Ansley began her nursing career as a staff nurse with the Health System at what was then the Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital. She has spent most of her nursing career with the Glynn County Health Department and Coastal Health Unit in such capacities as a public health nurse, a coordinator of the State Hypertension program, a diabetes program manager and a family nurse practitioner. Ansley has also worked for the Health System as an inpatient diabetes educator.
