Patient Safety
Southeast Georgia Health System’s focus on Patient Safety includes:
- Whole system safety (community, primary care, hospitals and extended care)
and the integration of safe care between levels of the system.
- Developing new methods for leadership to predict and anticipate safety concerns.
- Addressing identified safety concerns through evidence based practices.
Consumers and Patient Safety
Patient safety is one of the Nation's most pressing health care challenges.
A 1999 report by the Institute of Medicine estimates that as many as 44,000
to 98,000 people die in U.S. hospitals each year as the result of lapses
in patient safety. Click on the link below for more information on how
you can help prevent medical errors.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
This federal agency, through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services,
measures quality in hospitals across the country. Hospital Compare is
a consumer-oriented website that provides information on how well hospitals
provide recommended care to their patients. This information can help
consumers make informed decisions about health care. Click on the link
below for more information about Hospital Compare.
The Joint Commission
A not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the oldest and largest
health care accrediting body. Joint Commission standards set performance
expectations for activities that affect the safety and quality of patient
care – leading to good outcomes for patients.
