Marilyn Harris has worked for 30 years as a nurse in Jesup and knows her
way around the medical community. When she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's
lymphoma in 2008, it was a shock, but she didn't think twice about
choosing Abraham Cheong, M.D., board-certified oncologist with Southeast
Georgia Physician Associates–Hematology & Oncology, a strategic
affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System, as her oncologist.
"I chose Dr. Cheong," says Marilyn. "I had the option of
getting a second opinion and considered it, but I just didn't feel
the need. I knew him. I trusted him. And I liked the way he cares about
people."
In 2009, Marilyn underwent an intense, six-month regimen of chemotherapy
which put her cancer into remission. This was followed by a lighter regimen
for another two years. "Dr. Cheong's office staff was wonderful,"
she says. "They put me completely at ease. They know exactly what
to do and they treat you like family."
Today, Marilyn is still in remission and enjoying her life. She says spending
time with her family is her highest priority. Reflecting on her cancer
journey she says, "Although no one wants to get cancer, the experience
can change you for the better. I am very grateful to Southeast Georgia
Health System, and Dr. Cheong and his staff because they made it easier."
