When Gary Willis injured his right leg in a lawn mowing accident in June
2012, the retired bank executive thought he could treat the wound himself.
However, the wound grew worse, and after several weeks Gary knew it was
time to see a doctor.
Gary sought help at the Southeast Georgia Health System Wound Care Center
in Brunswick where he saw Paula Legere, M.D., a board-certified plastic
surgeon with specialized training in wound healing. Dr. Legere treated
the infection and performed a skin graft. A few weeks after the skin graft,
Gary went through a series of hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments.
"I was so impressed with Dr. Legere and the whole Wound Care Center
team that I really wanted to give a testimonial about my experience there,"
says Gary. "They are all very knowledgeable, and they make you feel
like family."
Today, Gary's leg is completely healed, and he is back to doing his
favorite activities, including exercising, enjoying his five grandchildren
and spending time in the North Georgia mountains where he and his wife
have a second home. "I think the Wound Care Center is one of the
best-kept secrets of the Health System, and the word needs to get out,"
he says. "They are just amazing!"
