Southeast Georgia Health System Volunteer Services recently announced Margie
Young as the
Brunswick Campus Volunteer of the Year and Linda Jordan as the
Camden Campus Volunteer of the Year. The awards were presented during National Volunteer
Week, April 17-23, 2022.
Young has provided volunteer support in the
Brunswick Campus Breast Care Center for eight years. Her primary responsibility is to assist with the hundreds
of patient letters that are mailed each week. She also provides support
with Volunteer Services projects. “Over the years, Margie has been
very supportive of our volunteer program,” says Peggy Tuten, president,
Brunswick Campus Volunteer Services. “She helped with the various
fundraisers, projects and Gift Shop bake sales held prior to the pandemic.”
Young has volunteered extensively with Habitat for Humanity and is a former
president of the Friends of the Library. In 2008, she received the YWCA
Tribute to Women Leaders award, and she was recognized in 2009 and 2010
with the Habitat for Humanity Outstanding Volunteer Award. In 2015, she
received the Charles Beard Library Advocacy Award for outstanding contributions
to Georgia libraries. Young remains very active in helping to run the
Brunswick-Glynn County libraries used bookstore. She and her husband,
Dick, have two sons and two grandsons. In her spare time, she enjoys working
in her yard, exercising, cooking and reading.
Jordan began volunteering at the
Camden Campus Gift Shop in 2019. “Linda has been a wonderful addition to the Gift Shop team,”
says Kathleen Worthing, president, Camden Campus Volunteer Services. “She
is dedicated, reliable and very supportive to the rest of the team.”
Jordan has a background in accounting and was the bookkeeper at Murray
Ford for many years. She is currently the bookkeeper at Our Lady Star
of the Sea where she attends church. Jordan was recently installed as
treasurer of the Camden Campus Volunteer Services board. In her spare
time, Jordan enjoys reading, cooking (especially desserts) and reupholstering
furniture.
During 2021, 137 adult volunteers contributed a total of 17,746 hours to
the Health System, which equates to an estimated monetary value of $506,470,
according to the Independent Sector. In addition, 14
teen volunteers completed 278 hours of volunteer service projects from their homes last
summer. Volunteers also donated a total of $80,000 last year for projects
that benefit patient care.
More than 150 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist
patients, visitors and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System
Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the
