In a rural, closely-knit community, it’s not uncommon for doctors
to provide care for their neighbors, fellow church members, friends and
colleagues.
Robert D. Mixson, M.D., board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist at
Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Obstetrics & Gynecology, has provided such care for over two decades, and in one case, is impacting
the lives of three generations of women.
On April 24, 1996, Mixson delivered a beautiful baby girl to Lisa Michelle
Plezia at the
Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus Maternity Care Center. A Navy family, Plezia had moved to St. Marys, Ga., from Charleston, S.C.,
in June of 1993 with her parents.
“Back then, Dr. Mixson was the hotshot new OB/GYN in the area. Everyone
wanted him to deliver their baby,” says Plezia. “He might
not be the ‘new’ doctor anymore, but nothing else has changed.
I was thrilled to learn that he would deliver my daughter’s baby
girl.”
Plezia’s daughter, Jenny Lynn Leska, and her husband, Joshua Lucas
Leska, are St. Marys natives. They welcomed their baby girl on Wednesday,
Jan. 5, 2022. Little Mackenna Lynn Leska weighed in at 7 pounds 3 ounces
and measured 20 inches. She was delivered via cesarean section by Mixson
at the Health System’s Camden Campus Maternity Care Center, the
same doctor and hospital where her mother delivered her.
“Serving my patients and the community has always been my calling,
but having this opportunity to care for generations of women is particularly
special,” says Mixson. “It was an absolute pleasure to provide
care for the Plezia and Leska families.”
Baby Mackenna is the Leskas’ first child, and they look forward to
growing and raising their family here in their hometown of St. Marys.
