Southeast Georgia Health System
Volunteer Services recently announced Robert “Bob” Gibbs as the Brunswick Campus
Winter Volunteer of the Quarter and Elizabeth Shahan as the Camden Campus
Winter Volunteer of the Quarter.
Gibbs serves in the Volunteer Services office every Tuesday afternoon assembling
Patient Education Folders. He also volunteers on additional days when
assistance is needed for special projects and events. “Bob has been
a tremendous help to us in the Volunteer Services office, especially during
the past six months. We are very thankful for his dedication,” says
Peggy Tuten, president, Brunswick Campus Volunteer Services.
Volunteering at the Health System is a family affair for Gibbs; his wife,
Susan Gibbs, volunteers with the Pet Therapy team. “We’re
glad to be able to give back,” says Gibbs.
In his free time, Gibbs enjoys singing with the Golden Isles Community
Chorus and road cycling. He has logged thousands of miles on his bike
and is looking forward to when he can join friends on another bicycling
road trip adventure.
Shahan volunteers at the Camden Campus Guest Services desk every Tuesday
afternoon and the COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics on Monday and Friday mornings.
“Elizabeth has really stepped up to help in key areas of need over
the past five months, and we are very appreciative of her generous spirit
and giving personality,” says Deana Belcher, president, Camden Campus
Volunteer Services.
In addition to volunteering with the Health System, Shahan also teaches
exercise classes at Magnolia Manor in St. Marys. She’s an avid traveler
(pre-COVID), and is currently averaging one jigsaw puzzle per week to
keep herself busy during the pandemic. In her free time, she enjoys reading
and spending time with her husband, Wayne Greenberg, her step-daughter
and three grandchildren.
“I love the areas where I currently volunteer, and I’m very
happy to be of help,” Shahan says. “Although I do admit that
I’m looking forward to resuming my volunteer position at the Emergency
Care Center when we finally beat COVID-19.”
More than 250 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist
