COVID-19 vs. Flu

Fever & Chills

Fever and chills go hand in hand with flu and COVID-19.

  • Chill out. Chills often predict a fever is coming, and they are common with flu or COVID-19
  • How high is high? A temperature above 100.4 degrees F is considered a fever with either condition.

Common Complaints

  • Cough

  • Fatigue (tiredness)

  • Sore throat

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing (Call 911)

  • Runny or stuffy nose

  • Muscle pain or body aches

Occasional Symptoms

Along with their typical symptoms, flu and COVID-19 share a few atypical symptoms as well.

  • Diarrhea

  • Vomiting

  • Nausea

These may be experienced sporatically or thruoghout the duration of the virus.

Symptomatic Onset

In most cases, neither causes immediate symptoms.

  • The flu virus typically begins causing symptoms 1 to 4 days after infection.

  • COVID-19 symptoms arise 2-14 days post-infection.

Uniquely COVID-19

Some symptoms are only experienced by those suffering from COVID-19.

  • Unexplainable loss of smell and taste.

  • Toes that turn red or purple and burn, itch and swell.
