January 16, 2020 – Southeast Georgia Health System
Volunteer Services recently announced Sarah Williams as the Brunswick Campus Summer Volunteer
of the Quarter, Elizabeth Martin as the Brunswick Campus Fall Volunteer
of the Quarter, and Donna Doersch as the Camden Campus Fall Volunteer
of the Quarter. The awards were announced during the Volunteer Services
Winter Luncheons, which featured a cowboy Christmas theme.
Sarah Williams volunteers at the Health System’s Brunswick Campus
Outpatient Care Center lobby on Tuesdays, Surgical Services/Prep &
Recovery on Thursdays, and assists with special projects and fundraisers
as needed.
“You can’t help but be drawn in by Sarah’s big personality
and smile,” says Peggy Tuten, president, Brunswick Campus Volunteer
Services. “She has a huge heart, a great sense of humor and a passion
for making a difference in the lives of others.”
In addition to volunteering with the Health System, Williams is also a
member of the North Camden Action Association. She serves as secretary
at her church and drives the church van as well. In her free time, she
enjoys bowling and has played with a league for many years.
“I love volunteering with the Health System,” Williams says.
“My grandson attends the Boys & Girls Club here in Brunswick,
and this is a way for me to give back to the community.”
Elizabeth Martin spends her Wednesdays and Fridays at the Volunteer Services
office on the Brunswick Campus. She also helps with fundraisers and special events.
“Elizabeth definitely finds joy in helping others,” says Tuten.
“She is committed to giving back and caring for those in our community
in any way she can.”
Martin also volunteers each week at the Roosevelt Harris Jr. Senior Center
in Brunswick, and she is a member at Zion Rock Church in Brunswick. In
her free time, she attends bible study at First Baptist Church in Brunswick,
and she also enjoys bowling.
“Volunteering has been such a blessing to me,” Martin says.
“I started volunteering after I moved here from Michigan. I didn’t
have any family here, and I’ve been able to give back to the community
and make some wonderful friends!”
Donna Doersch began volunteering at the Health System’s Camden Campus
in 2014. She spends her time at the Outpatient Lab on Wednesdays and was
the 2019 Council on Volunteers Services District Director for Southeast Georgia.
“Donna has volunteered in many areas, including the gift shop, guest
services and the outpatient lab,” says Deana Belcher, president,
Camden Campus Volunteer Services. “She’s served leadership
roles on the volunteer board and is always willing to step in and lend
a hand. She created beautiful floral arrangements for several months while
volunteering at the gift shop.”
Doersch enjoys reading, antiquing and traveling, but volunteering holds
a special place in her heart. “Volunteering and giving back to my
community provides me such joy and is a blessing in itself,” she says.
More than 300 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist
patients, visitors and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System
Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the Senior Care Centers in Brunswick
and St. Marys. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, contact Kristin
