August 24, 2020 – In times like these, we could all use a miracle.
No one appreciates that more than
Michael D. Scherneck. As President and CEO of Southeast Georgia Health System, he oversees
the Brunswick and Camden campuses. Last week, Scherneck received his miracle
in the form of 10,000 protective face shields, donated by the ScottsMiracle-Gro
Company. The face shields could not have come at a better time.

“Given the increasing demand for hospital services due to the coronavirus,
I am deeply grateful for the ScottsMiracle-Gro Company’s efforts
to get protective gear into the hands of health care providers. I’m
also thankful to Representative Don Hogan, Woody Woodside and Bryan Tolar
for making this possible,” Scherneck said.
Rep. Hogan serves Glynn County House District 179. Milton “Woody”
Woodside is a board member of Southeast Georgia Health System, Inc. and
the Glynn-Brunswick Memorial Hospital Authority and former president of
the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce. Tolar advocates for the
Georgia Urban Agriculture Council through his company Tolar Capitol Partners.
The face shields are crucial protection for doctors, nurses, respiratory
therapists and other frontline personnel caring for patients with COVID-19.
The shields are in high demand due to rising numbers of COVID-19 cases
in states including Georgia.
Woodside learned of Scotts’ offer through Rep. Hogan. “I was
overwhelmed when Representative Hogan called to ask if Southeast Georgia
Health System could use a generous supply of medical face shields to help
protect our medical professionals as they fight this pandemic,”
Woodside said. “A huge thank you goes out to Rep. Hogan, Bryan Tolar
and the Georgia Urban Agriculture Council for coordinating the generous
donation. The shields donated by ScottsMiracle-Gro will help Southeast
Georgia Health System protect team members as they battle the coronavirus.”
For Tolar, the donation is a way to support frontline workers who risk
their lives to care for the sickest patients. “I am grateful for
Michael Scherneck’s leadership and all that his staff does to serve
our Golden Isles communities. The Georgia Urban Agriculture Council and
ScottsMiracle-Gro are honored to be partners in this effort,” Tolar
said, adding, “Hats off to Scotts for their generosity. It was an
honor for the Council to coordinate with Rep. Hogan to make this possible.”
