October 3, 2019 – Southeast Georgia Health System
Volunteer Services recently announced Judy Welch as the Volunteer of the Quarter for the
Camden Campus during their fall luncheon on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.
A retired nurse, Welch volunteers at the
Senior Care Center-St. Marys several days a week and helps with Bingo, one of the residents’
most popular activities. During 2017-2019, she served as the second vice
president on the Volunteer Services board, and she has also served on
the Teen Scholarship committee for the past several years.
Kristin Doll, CAVS, director, Volunteer Services, describes Welch as an
inspiration. “From assisting with activities at our Senior Care
Center to providing oversight on our teen volunteer and scholarship programs,
Judy’s compassionate spirit touches people of all ages in our community,”
says Doll. “Her commitment and years of dedication to serving others
in the health care field, first through a career in nursing and now in
volunteerism, are inspiring.”
For Welch, volunteering isn’t just something to fill her day; it’s
a joyful gift that gives back in spades. “If you enjoy helping others,
I encourage you to explore the volunteer opportunities at Southeast Georgia
Health System,” Welch says. “The odds that you’ll receive
a smile and a word of thanks from someone having a difficult time is good.
I guarantee it will make you smile, too, and brighten your day.”
In addition to volunteering at the Health System, Welch also enjoys reading,
knitting and traveling in her spare time. She is married to Dick Welch,
and they have two children and seven grandchildren.
More than 300 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist
patients, visitors and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System
Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the Senior Care Centers in Brunswick
and St. Marys. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, contact Volunteer
