May 7, 2019— Dozens of different foot and ankle injuries can occur
during athletic activities, but not all ankle injuries are created equally.
Jake J. Porter III, M.D., MPH, fellowship-trained foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon at
Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery, presents “Foot and Ankle Sports Injuries” for this month’s
Health Chat Webinar.

“A variety of factors determine if surgery is required following
an ankle injury,” says Porter. “The location and severity
of the injury itself is considered as well as the age, health and activity
level of the patient. This webinar will discuss these factors to give
athletes, parents and weekend warriors a better idea of what to expect
the next time they roll an ankle.”
Porter is a Georgia native. He returned to his home state after earning
his medical degree at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, finishing
his residency at Atlanta Medical Center, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery
in Atlanta and completing a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at the University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Health
System, Porter presented his Master of Public Health (MPH) at the New
England Science Symposium at Harvard Medical School and was inducted into
the Tennessee Gamma Chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor, a rare
honor for a third year medical student to receive.
