March 21, 2019 – Thanks to the Starlight Children’s Foundation,
Southeast Georgia Health System’s pediatric patients now have bedside
access to entertainment and games with the Nintendo Wii U, nicknamed the
Starlight Fun Center.
Anna Fowler, M.S., CCLS, child life specialist at the Health System, expressed
the joyful impact the Starlight Fun Center has already made for pediatric
patients, “As the child life specialist, I am incredibly grateful
for this donation. I see firsthand the excitement and surprise when I
set up the Fun Center for a family!”
The Starlight Children’s Foundation goal is to offer a source of
smiles, laughter and much needed normalcy for children and families facing
difficult medical challenges. A recent patient named Andy expressed his
gratitude in a thank you letter, stating, “I had to stay at the
hospital for several days due to surgery and being able to play the Wii
U helped take my mind off things. It passed the time in a fun way!”
His letter concluded exclaiming, “The Foundation truly made a huge
impact with my stay at Southeast Georgia Health System.”
Fowler added, “The Fun Center has brought happiness and recreation
to children and teens who visit the pediatric unit at the Health System.
Our team members are also excited to have something to offer our patients
that is fresh and well suited to the hospital environment.”
