July 23, 2019 – Southeast Georgia Health System has received platinum
level recognition from LifeLink of Georgia for their efforts to increase
organ and tissue donation awareness. This is the second consecutive year
the Health System has been recognized for their efforts. In 2018, they
earned gold level recognition. Michelle Burkett, R.N., BSN, Hospital Development
Liaison, LifeLink of Georgia, presented the award to Jan Jones, R.N.,
BSN, director, Patient Care Services, during a recent Health Ssytem leadership meeting.
“Organ and tissue donation provides the gift of life to tens of thousands
of people each year through heart, kidney, lung, liver, pancreas, corneal
or intestine transplants,” says Jones. “Without the generosity
of donors, the patients waiting for those vital organs will die. Our efforts
to spread organ and tissue donation awareness is just a small piece of
a very large puzzle to help save lives.”
During Donate Life Month, the month-long celebration in April that commemorates
those who have received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants
as well as the donors who save and heal lives, Southeast Georgia Health
System encouraged all Georgians to join their state’s organ and
tissue donor registry through a variety of print and digital mediums and
online platforms.
Georgians can join the state’s organ and tissue donor registry in
