April 10, 2019 – Puzzle pieces are a mix of shapes and sizes, but
when placed together, the pieces fit beautifully to form a whole picture.
The same is true with patient care. Many individuals, with a variety of
skills, knowledge and talents, work together to provide patients with
the highest quality of health care, comfort and hospitality.
On Monday, April 8, 2019, Southeast Georgia Health System held its annual
National Volunteer Week Luncheon to recognize the more than 300
volunteers who generously share their time and talents to assist patients, visitors,
and team members at the Health System’s
Brunswick and
Camden campuses, as well as the
Senior Care Centers in Brunswick and St. Marys.
“Our volunteers are most definitely an essential piece of the health
care puzzle,” said Kristin Doll, CAVS, director,
Volunteer Services, Southeast Georgia Health System. “Every day they provide help at
our guest services desks, transport patients, hold fundraisers, serve
in the gift shops and provide warm hospitality to our patients and visitors.
This week is the perfect time to recognize and thank our volunteers for
their incredible commitment and contributions.”
During 2018, the Health System’s volunteers and volunteens provided
51,876 hours of service valued at more than $1.2 million. In addition,
the Auxiliaries hosted several successful fundraisers during the year,
and along with gift shop proceeds, were able to donate $125,000 to the
Brunswick Campus and $30,000 to the Camden Campus.
“On behalf of our board of directors, leadership and team members,
I’d like to express how truly grateful we are for the key role our
volunteers play in helping us meet our communities’ health care
needs,” said
Michael D. Scherneck, president and chief executive officer, Southeast Georgia Health System.
“Every day you put yourselves in the shoes of others to help them
feel more comfortable. Your dedication is admirable, and we thank you
from the bottom of our hearts.”
Camden Campus Administrator and Vice President
Howard W. Sepp Jr., FACHE, echoed Scherneck’s remarks, noting, “As I walk through the
hospital on a daily basis, and meet you fulfilling your various responsibilities,
I can’t help but notice the smiles on your faces and your pleasant
demeanors. You must really enjoy what you do and it shows! Whether I’m
conversing with those at our guest services desk, the gift shop, outpatient
services or the many other places throughout the hospital, you are always
there, and always ready to serve. Thank you for all you do.”
The 2018 Volunteers of the Year were also named during the luncheon: Patti
Crandall for the Brunswick Campus and Jeanne Kelly for the Camden Campus.
“Several words come to mind when I think of Patti,” said Joyce
Toler, president, Brunswick Auxiliary. “Compassionate, kind, reliable
and capable are just a few. Patti has volunteered weekly and assisted
with Auxiliary fundraisers and special events for eighteen years. And
she now joins the Volunteer of the Year ranks, which includes her husband
Jim Crandall. They are the first couple to both receive this honor.”
Marilyn Masson, first vice president, Camden Campus Auxiliary, praised
Kelly for her servant’s heart as she announced her as the Camden
Campus Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year, “With a head for numbers
and a heart for giving back, Jeanne is uniquely qualified for the tasks
and responsibilities in dual volunteer assignments, figuring out the puzzle
of financial documents. Hardworking, conscientious and compassionate are
just a few of the characteristics that she demonstrates every day. She
truly has a servant’s heart.”
The following Auxiliary volunteers were presented with service pins in
recognition of the number of hours they volunteered over the past year:
