Nov. 23, 2018 – On Thursday, Nov. 1, Southeast Georgia Health System,
in conjunction with the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce, hosted
a Ribbon Cutting and Open House for its new
Palliative Care Center office. In addition to tours, the event offered an opportunity for attendees
to meet the Palliative Care Center’s physician and staff, as well
as learn about the services available at the Health System.
The Southeast Georgia Health System Palliative Care Center provides inpatient
and outpatient palliative care in partnership with Golden Isles Palliative
Care. These programs coordinate with the patient’s attending physician
to provide patients and families with extra support and the opportunity
to discuss and establish the goals of care.
Palliative medicine is specialized treatment for people with chronic or
serious illness and has become the fastest-growing medical specialty in
the United States.
John E. Shaner, M.D., medical director of the Health System’s Palliative Care Center,
explained that palliative care is focused on providing comfort and support
to patients living with a serious illness at any stage in their disease
management.
The Palliative Care Center is located on the Health System’s Brunswick
Campus in the Outpatient Care Center, 2500 Starling St., Suite 305. For
