March 21, 2018 – Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be a scary, confusing
time for patients and their family members. Misconceptions regarding radiation
therapy can compound the fears that people experience when faced with
cancer treatment. During this month’s Health Chat Webinar,
Kenyon Meadows, M.D., board-certified radiation oncologist,
Southeast Georgia Health System Cancer Care Centers, presents “Radiation Therapy: What to Expect?” to help ease
concerns and clarify those misconceptions.

“During this presentation, we will cover the core aspects of the
radiation experience, including initial consultation, treatment planning,
treatment delivery, common side effects and follow-up,” says Meadows.
“The goal is to make you a better informed patient, family member
or friend to the person coping with a cancer diagnosis.”
Meadows completed his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University’s
School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, and an internship in internal medicine
at Metrohealth Medical Center, also in Cleveland. He has contributed to
several prestigious medical journals, including the American Journal of
Otolaryngology and the American Journal of Oncology, and he is experienced
in the use of accelerated partial breast radiation, a technique that drastically
reduces the treatment time for breast cancer patients who have undergone
a lumpectomy.
