Feb. 8, 2018 – After a massive 200-year-old Live Oak was removed
from Jekyll Square in downtown Brunswick, the Brunswick Downtown Development
Authority offered 16 pieces of the tree to wood carvers and artists as
part of an art contest to preserve the fallen tree.
Included in the entries was “New from Old in Nature’s Cradle,”
designed and carved by coastal Georgia wood sculptor, John Hancock. It
was purchased by Georgia Power and donated to Southeast Georgia Health
System in 2017. The Health System, which sponsored the contest, has installed
the sculpture in the
Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center.
