August 9, 2018 – Do you know occupational and physical therapy are
effective, non-surgical treatments for osteoporosis? A therapist can teach
you exercises that help restore healthy movement, function and bone strength,
as well as ways to manage daily activities to help decrease the chances
of having an osteoporosis-related fracture.
On Wednesday, Aug. 29, Summer Deason, OTR/L, MBA, inpatient team leader,
Rehabilitation Services at Southeast Georgia Health System, will present
“How Does Rehabilitation Therapy Help Osteoporosis?” The Lunch
and Learn For Your Health lecture will be held at the Golden Isles YMCA
from 12 to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Buffalo Wild Wings at no charge
to attendees.
Rehabilitation therapy is a proactive way to help prevent osteoporosis,
especially for people who are at a higher risk of developing this bone
disease. The lecture will offer important information on exercises to
improve strength and balance, fall risks, tips to keep your home safe, and more.
The Golden Isles YMCA is located at 144 Scranton Connector, Brunswick.
Seating is limited and pre-registration is required by calling the YMCA
at 912-265-4100. A YMCA membership is not required to attend; the Lunch
and Learn
is
open to the public.
