From the Desk of Michael D. Scherneck, President & CEO
Hurricane Irma is expected to impact Glynn and Camden Counties with several
inches of rain and tropical storm or hurricane force winds from Sunday,
September 10th through Monday, September 11th.
Efforts are underway to reduce the inpatient census at both the Brunswick
and Camden Campuses. We understand that the impending hurricane will affect
the availability of adequate staff to meet the needs of our patients,
due in part to the mandatory evacuation issued this afternoon for parts
of our community. However, based on our experience last year, we believe
it is important to maintain limited inpatient services as well as emergency
services at both locations.
Certainly, given the responsibilities we have to our patients and our community,
we appreciate that many of our team members and other professional staff
have committed to working during the critical hours to enable us to conduct
the business of patient care.
With that in mind we have implemented the following initiatives for team
members that are not on the leadership team or under a contractual arrangement
with the Health System:
Team members involved in direct patient care who are scheduled to work
starting at 7:00 p.m. Friday will be paid at a premium rate of double
time for hours
worked from 7:00 p.m. Friday until 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday.Arrangements will be
made for those individuals to be provided accommodations to rest in the
hospital or one of the contiguous buildings during which time they will
be eligible for a
hold-over/on-call pay of $5.00 per hour.Meal allowances will also be provided (one for every
8 hour period the individual is present working or held over/on call).
Other hourly team members (clinical and non-clinical) who are required
to perform their regular duties as well as any who are called upon to
provide non-traditional support will be provided the same double pay and
hold over/on call arrangement from 7:00 p.m. Friday until 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.Those
individuals also will be provided accommodations to rest in the hospital
or one of the contiguous buildings during which time they will be eligible
for hold-over/on-call pay of $5.00 per hour.
Team members that commit to working throughout this period will be permitted
to stay at the Health System and provided accommodations throughout the
storm.A list of items to bring with you will be circulated shortly.
Unless called upon otherwise to provide non-traditional support, administrative
and support team members (e.g., Patient Financial Services, Medical Records,
Human Resources, Marketing, Volunteer Services, Accounting, etc.) are
not expected to report to work on Monday, September 11th.
Please understand that it is our desire to have these individuals that
work during these critical hours remain at our facilities for their own
safety as we do not want them to attempt to drive in these storm conditions.
The Incident Command Centers (ICCs) on the Brunswick and Camden campuses
are scheduled to become operational Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. and will
serve as central points for all storm-related communications. The phone
numbers for the Brunswick ICC are 466-7030, 466‑7031 and 466-7512. Phone
lines to the Camden’s ICC include 576-6312, 576-6314 and 576-6315.
Thank you for your professionalism, support and understanding during this
challenging weather event.
