April 10, 2017 – Southeast Georgia Health System Auxiliaries announced
Volunteers of the Quarter at their respective quarterly luncheons in March.
Diane Heinecke of Brunswick was named Volunteer of the Quarter by the
Brunswick Campus Auxiliary on March 2, and Sharon Bowen of St. Marys was
named Volunteer of the Quarter by the Camden Campus Auxiliary on March 27.
Volunteering at the Health System for the past three years, Heinecke can
be found Tuesdays and Thursdays at the American Cancer Society Resource
Center located in the Cancer Care Center on the Brunswick Campus. She
helps connect cancer patients with information and resources, as well
as offer them empathy and support during this difficult time in their lives.
She says, “Each day I volunteer, I leave with a smile on my face.
I work alongside such wonderful people and the patients that I interact
with are an inspiration.”
Bowen began volunteering in the Camden Campus Gift Shop on Thursday mornings
in 2015. “Reliable, helpful and kind are words that come to mind
when describing Sharon,” notes Glenda Battle, president, Camden
Campus Auxiliary, “as does ‘can do’. We don’t
think ‘no’ is part of her vocabulary.”
Reflecting on her own experience, Bowen says volunteering in the Gift Shop
is so much fun and that she appreciates being able to help the Auxiliary
raise funds to donate back to the Health System. She adds, “The
biggest reward for me is meeting so many wonderful people from the Health
System and our community who come into the Gift Shop.”
More than 300 volunteers generously share their time and talents to assist
patients, visitors, and team members at the Southeast Georgia Health System
Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the Senior Care Centers in Brunswick
and St. Marys. To learn more about
volunteer opportunities, contact Kristin Doll, CAVS, director, Volunteer Services, at 912-466-1071.
