Bereavement gowns for babies donated by Brunswick resident
The loss of a loved one is never easy, but for expectant parents, losing
a child is heartbreaking. Brunswick resident Pat Croft helps create a
legacy of love for bereaved families by sewing gowns and crocheting blankets
for babies that she donates to the Southeast Georgia Health System Miriam
and Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center.
“The gowns Pat creates are a special keepsake for the grieving family
during a very difficult time,” says Kim Buckley, R.N., BSN, patient
care manager, Miriam and Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center. “Pat
sews with a lot of love and the gowns are beautiful.”
Croft has been making and donating blankets and bereavement gowns to the
Health System for more than 10 years. More recently, she began making
bereavement gowns from donated wedding dresses. Croft says she was inspired
by reading what others were creating in her sewing magazines.
“I take the dresses completely apart so I can save all the lace,”
Croft explains. “Then I use patterns to make 15 to 20 gowns depending
on the size of the original dress and length of the train. I like paying
it forward. Making these gowns gives me a lot of pleasure knowing I’m
helping families in need.”
