
J. Melvin Deese, M.D., has been appointed to the foot and ankle faculty
list of AOTrauma North America. AO North America is one of five regions
worldwide that comprise an international community of trauma and orthopedic
surgeons, musculoskeletal researchers, and operating room personnel dedicated
to improving patient care and outcomes related to musculoskeletal trauma.
As a faculty member of AO North America, Deese will be called upon to
help foster
high quality
education that promotes excellence in trauma care.
Deese is a board-certified
orthopaedic
surgeon with Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery, a strategic
affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System, and has been actively involved
in treating sports injuries from professional and collegiate ranks to
high school and recreational athletes. He currently serves as the medical
director of Rehabilitation Services—Brunswick Campus, and the Health
System’s Orthopaedic & Spine Center.
A graduate of the University of Georgia, Deese received his
orthopaedic
residency training at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans,
La. He then completed a postgraduate fellowship in Surgery and Disorders
of the Foot and Ankle at the University of Texas, Health Science Center
in Houston. Deese is a charter member of the American Sports Medicine
Fellowship Society, a member of the Hughston Sports Medicine Society,
and co-founder of the Georgia Society of Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
