Tsai earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science
Center in San Antonio and completed his general surgery residency at Eisenhower
Army Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
Prior to joining the Health System, Tsai was Chief of the Department of
General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at Winn Army Community Hospital
in Fort Stewart, Ga., and founder of the hospital’s bariatric program.
In addition to extensive research and numerous medical journal articles,
Tsai was an assistant clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia.
During his 11 years of military service, he deployed twice to Afghanistan.
His military awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, three Army Commendation
Medals, Army Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign
stars and two NATO Medals.
In addition to general surgery, Tsai specializes in bariatric surgery,
using advanced, minimally-invasive laparoscopic techniques for excellent
With Tsai’s arrival, the Health System plans to launch a fully integrated
bariatric surgery program, with a bariatric nurse, patient education classes,
dietary and behavioral health counseling and support groups.
Though he considered other parts of the country, Tsai settled here because
of the Health System and the quality of life. “I love the Golden
Isles and want patients to feel that between my colleagues and myself,
they don’t have to travel to Savannah or Jacksonville for exceptional
surgical care,” says Tsai.
