Southeast Georgia Health System will host a continuing education seminar
for nursing professionals, “Breastfeeding: The Gift for Life”,
on Friday, April 22, 2016. The event takes place 7:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. at
the Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center on the Brunswick
Campus, 2415 Parkwood Drive.
The all-day conference fee is $75 and includes conference materials and
lunch. Community members interested in learning more about breastfeeding
are welcome to attend the event. This activity has been submitted to Alabama
State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. Alabama
State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing
education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission
Guest speaker and healthcare professional, Barbara Wilson-Clay, BSEd, IBCLC,
FILCA, will discuss various breastfeeding topics, including maternal assessment
for lactation, breastfeeding ethics and the importance of case studies.
Barbara has been in private practice in Austin, Texas, since 1987, specializing
in difficult breastfeeding cases.
Some of Barbara’s many accomplishments include helping to found the
Texas Chapter of Healthy Mothers/Healthy Babies. She is a member of the
Texas Breastfeeding Coalition and served as the ICLA representative to
the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) where
she sat on the Ethics and the Exam committees. She’s also served
as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Austin chapter of the
Mothers Milk Bank from 2007-2010. Her research and commentaries have appeared
in The Journal of Human Lactation, Current Issues in Clinical Lactation,
Birth Issues, Breastfeeding Abstracts, The International Breastfeeding
Journal, the ICEA Journal and Archives of Disease in Childhood.
