Although falls can happen anywhere, and to anyone, most falls can be attributed
to physical and health conditions. Many older adults are afraid of falling,
and for good reason. According to the National Institutes of Health, more
than one in three people age 65 and older fall each year. Falls are the
number one cause of fractures, hospital admissions for trauma, loss of
independence and injury-related deaths.
On Wednesday, Aug. 31, Wendy Alberson, P.T., physical therapist and manager
of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services at Southeast Georgia Health System,
will present “How to Keep Your Balance and Prevent Falls.”
The Lunch and Learn For Your Health lecture will be held at the Golden
Isles YMCA from 12 to 1 p.m., and Applebees will provide lunch at no charge
to attendees.
Falls are not an inevitable part of life and can be prevented. The lecture
will offer important information on fall risks, exercises to improve strength
and balance, tips to keep your home safe, and more.
The Lunch and Learn For Your Health series takes place at the Golden Isles
YMCA located at 144 Scranton Connector, Brunswick. Seating is limited
and pre-registration is required by calling the YMCA at 912-265-4100.
