Oct. 8, 2015–Southeast Georgia Health System announces the launch
of Healthy Pacers, a mall-walking program held at Glynn Place Mall in
Brunswick.
People of all ages and fitness levels are invited to stop by the new Southeast
Georgia Health System Information Kiosk for the Healthy Pacers Launch
on Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Program information will be available
along with registration, giveaways, and free blood pressure screenings.
Although registration is not required, registered participants will receive
a walking log, pedometer, invitations to special events and participation rewards.
Not only is it safe and inexpensive,
walking is
a great way to get the health benefits of cardiovascular exercise without
straining bones and joints. The Health System walking path at Glynn Place
Mall offers a well-lit, climate-controlled atmosphere with water fountains,
convenient
rest rooms
and
resting areas. The half-mile walking course is safe for all ability levels
and permits walking year-round, regardless of the weather outside.
Research shows that walking daily provides a variety of health benefits
including decreased risk of breast and colon cancer, better control of
blood pressure and cholesterol, decreased risk of type 2 diabetes, improved
circulation and muscle tone, and increased energy, mental well-being, balance
and
coordination.
Glynn Place Mall offers extended hours for mall walking. The course is
open to the public Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.-9 pm. and Sunday 7
a.m.-5:30 p.m. The start/finish location is located at the Blue Martini
Bar & Grill entrance near Belk.
