
BRUNSWICK, Georgia: August 27, 2015 – Southeast Georgia Health System,
Inc. Board of Directors announced yesterday its appointment of Michael
D. Scherneck as the new permanent president and chief executive officer (CEO).

and CEO given his demonstrated track record of success within the Health
System,” commented Carl Alexander, chair of the Board. “As
the Health System’s executive vice president and chief financial
officer (CFO) for the last 12 years, he has been instrumental in developing
the Health System into a financially strong and innovative health care
provider. In addition to his extensive experience in executive management
and finance, Michael is committed to our mission, vision

values. We as a Board are confident in his abilities to lead the health
system.”
About Michael D. Scherneck
Scherneck joined Southeast Georgia Health System as executive vice president
and CFO in 2003, relocating to Brunswick, Georgia from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the Health System,
Scherneck’s
extensive background in health care included positions as the CFO and
senior vice president for the Wyoming Valley Health Care System in Wilkes-Barre,
Pennsylvania, CFO and senior vice president of Susquehanna Health System
in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and CFO and vice president of the Williamsport
Hospital and Medical Center in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He earned his
Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania and his Master of Science degree from Bucknell University
in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
Over the past 12 years, Scherneck has displayed an obvious wealth of health
care knowledge as well as impressive leadership skills in overseeing the
departments of Finance, Medical Records, Patient Accounting, Information
Systems, Business Development
and
Materials Management within the Health System. In addition to his role
within SGHS, Scherneck also serves as president of Cooperative Healthcare
Services, Inc., the Health System entity that operates a number of the
employed physician practices throughout the Health System's service area.
Following his acceptance of the new permanent position, Scherneck stated,
“I am honored and feel extraordinarily privileged to serve as president
and CEO of Southeast Georgia Health System. I am committed to continuing
the Health System’s practice of providing quality health care to
the communities we serve, and I look forward to working with our health
care partners and the Health System’s leadership team as I transition
into this new role.”
Scherneck also currently holds the title of chief financial officer and
will continue to until a later date when a search will be implemented
for a new CFO.
