August 7, 2015—Southeast Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus has
been recognized as a Georgia Top 10 Best Value Hospital by Verras Healthcare
International, LLC.
The Best Value Hospital recognition was determined using the Verras’
patented Medical Value Index (MVI), a data tool developed by William C.
Mohlenbrock MD, FACS, founder and chief medical officer, to identify best
value practices in hospitals nation-wide. Every hospital in Georgia with
more than 250 beds was considered in the ranking process.
Southeast Georgia Health System ranked number four on the Georgia Best
Value Hospital list with a Medical Value Index score of 540 out of a possible
800 points.
“It is a great honor to be recognized as one of the 100 Best Value
Hospitals in the United States,” said Gary R. Colberg, FACHE, president
& CEO, Southeast Georgia Health System. “This is reflective
of our team members’ dedication to continuously improve our patients’
experiences and consistently provide high quality health care that is
efficient and cost-effective.”
The Medical Value Index uses a patented algorithm to process data provided
by the hospitals themselves based on six widely recognized healthcare metrics.
“We are pleased to present this award to Southeast Georgia Health
System. We congratulate them on their notable accomplishment of achieving
Best Value Hospital status,” said Dennis Patterson, Ed. D., Chairman
of Verras Healthcare International, LLC.
The MVI gives each hospital a single score based on a scale of 0-800 points.
The higher the number, the greater the value delivered to healthcare consumers
by the hospital. For more details on the scoring process please see

“The Medical Value Index is the distillation of work I have done
throughout my 30 year career in medicine,” said Dr. Mohlenbrock.
“Value is what we pay for in every area of our lives. It should
be the same in medicine. The challenge has always been to determine how
to measure value in healthcare. With the methodology used in the Medical
Value Index, we have identified the essential features for measuring healthcare
value. This has enormous implications for patients and payers throughout
the country.”
Verras Healthcare International, LLC Chairman Dennis Patterson, Ed. D.,
a veteran healthcare executive with more than 30 years overseeing hospitals
in the U.S., Canada and Europe, recognized the importance of Dr. Mohlenbrock’s
work and acquired Dr. Mohlenbrock’s company to enhance the delivery
of value-based healthcare data to self-insured employers, insurance companies,
regulators and hospital executives.
“Value-based assessment of healthcare holds the potential to save
American companies billions of dollars each year,” Patterson noted.
“This is not complicated or difficult to understand. Any payer can
use MVI data to dramatically lower the cost of healthcare in their organizations
simply by working with the highest value healthcare provider in their
local community as reflected in the MVI.
“We are here to empower consumers and self-insured employers to
make educated healthcare purchases based on very complex set of data that
adds up to a very simple concept: Value in Healthcare,” said Patterson.
The Best Value Hospital award was created to bring public recognition
to hospitals delivering best value to their patients. Knowing which Georgia
hospitals deliver the greatest value empowers consumers to identify hospitals
that deliver better outcomes at lower cost and provides payers data to
help them lower the cost of healthcare for their companies.
