August 18, 2015 – How is your balance? Why is it important to have
good
balance? Are there ways to improve balance? Having good balance indicates
you are able to control and maintain your body's position, whether
you are moving or are stationary. Good balance is essential to help you
get around, remain independent, and perform daily activities.
On Tuesday, Sept. 1, Dan Welch, ATC, certified athletic trainer with Southeast
Georgia Health System Sports Medicine, will host “Sports Smart,”
a question and answer session focusing on “Balance Assessments.”
The drop-in event, which takes place 4:30-7 p.m. at the Golden Isles YMCA
in the Southeast Georgia Health System Health Information Center, located
at 144 Scranton Connector in Brunswick, is open to the community and does
not require YMCA membership. Participants are welcome to drop in during
the session to learn more about balance assessments and get a free blood
pressure screening.
Southeast GeorgiaHealth System Sports Medicine presents the Sports Smart
series the first Tuesday of each month. The presenters and main topics,
which focus on sports health and injury prevention, vary each month.
