Registration for the Southeast Georgia Health System 2015 Bridge Run has
opened, offering running enthusiasts an opportunity to save with early
bird pricing.
A record number of runners are expected to enter the Southeast Georgia
Health System 2015 Bridge Run on Saturday, Feb. 14. Unique among bridge
runs, the event takes place entirely on the 7,780-foot long Sidney Lanier
Bridge in Brunswick, Ga. At its center, the bridge measures 480 feet high
above the Brunswick River, the tallest span in the state.
Certified by the U.S. Track and Field Association as "the toughest
5K in Georgia," the course is sufficiently difficult to entice professionals
and experienced amateurs, and manageable enough for walkers of all ages to enjoy.
The Bridge Run has grown exponentially in recent years, as word of the
event has spread throughout the running community. Registration is a bargain
at $25 per person prior to January 13, with a $2 discount offered per
person for teams of 10 or more. Registration increases to $30 January
13-February 3; and $40 February 4-11. Entry is free for firefighter teams
participating in the Firefighters’ Challenge.
Radiofrequency chip technology is used to ensure accurate race results.
Prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250, provided by sponsor Pinova, are given
in the overall male and female categories. Aside from the fastest male
and female runners, fastest team and best team spirit are also recognized.
The "Oldie but Goodie" award will celebrate the oldest participant.
Start times are:
8 a.m. Firefighters Challenge
9 a.m. Runners
10 a.m. Walkers
Competitors will run across and return over the Sidney Lanier Bridge. The
bridge’s southbound lanes are closed to traffic from 6 a.m. until
1 p.m. Although the Run is considered quite challenging and should not
be attempted by those who have not properly trained, there will be plenty
of other activities for the entire family, including a 5K Walk, live entertainment,
and a Vendor and Runners’ Expo.
Runners must register by Feb. 11,
2015
through
www.sghs.org or
www.active.com, or by calling 800-537-5142, ext. 2786. Each registered participant can
pick up his or her bib number and T-shirt at the Pasta Party and Runners’
Expo, on Friday, Feb.13, from 5-8 pm, at the foot of the Sidney Lanier
Bridge. The Pasta Party is $5 per person and includes entertainment, vendors,
and a pasta dinner. Registrants can also pick up their numbers and T-shirts
on Saturday morning no later than 30 minutes prior to their event.
There is no late runner registration; however, walkers may register on
the day of the event at the registration tent from 7-9 a.m. The walker’s
late registration fee is $40. Only pre-registered runners and walkers
are guaranteed to receive a commemorative
dri
-fit shirt.
Proceeds benefit the Health System’s cancer care programs.
Because of the steep grade on the bridge, baby strollers, running strollers
or roller blades are NOT permitted during the Bridge Run. For more information, please call 912-466-BRUN (2786).
