Eddie Byrd Recipient of Inaugural Mary B. Dinos Memorial Scholarship
Mary Butler Dinos was a steadfast supporter of the nursing profession and
compassionately believed in giving the gift of education to deserving
students who were not financially able to fulfill their academic dreams.
On April 22, Eddie Byrd, a registered nurse at Southeast Georgia Health
System, was awarded the inaugural Mary B. Dinos Memorial Scholarship to
allow him to further his education in nursing and obtain a Bachelor of
Science Nursing (BSN) degree.
“Eddie is the reason this scholarship exists,” said Jack Dinos.
“His caring and compassion during Mary’s illness touched us
deeply and will always stay with us. I see how he inspires other to achieve,
and my family is very happy to be able to do something like this for him
and the Health System.”
Jack Dinos established the endowed scholarship in memory of his wife with
a gift to the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation. This scholarship
will recognize, encourage, and assist outstanding registered nurses employed
by Southeast Georgia Health System who desire to further their education.
Recipients must be a registered nurse employed by the Health System and
must attend the Collegeof Coastal Georgia. The scholarship will support
a recipient for a maximum of three academic years with only one scholarship
granted at a time. Recipients are required to remain employed with the
Health System for three years following the completion of their BSN degree.
“Thank you for giving to our profession,” responded Eddie.
“You didn’t have to but you did, and now I can advance my
patient care and continue to give back to others.”
The Southeast Georgia Health System mission of providing safe, quality
and cost-effective care to meet the health care needs of the people and
communities it serves is strengthened by the generosity of donor’s
philanthropic gifts. Established in 1994, the Southeast Georgia Health
System Foundation is the fundraising and resource development organization
for Southeast Georgia Health System.
