Breast Care Center Earns Designation as Breast Imaging Center of Excellence One of Three in Southeast Georgia
The Southeast Georgia Health System Breast Care Center has been designated
a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology
(ACR). It is one of only three designated Breast Imaging Centers of Excellence
in the Southeast Georgia region, and the status has been granted to only
30 other facilities in the state.
By awarding the BICOE designation, the ACR affirms that the Breast Care
Center has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel
qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality
assurance programs.
“We have an outstanding team and are proud to be among an elite
group of breast imaging centers in the region to have achieved this designation,”
says Karen S. Beaver, CRA, MBA, director of Radiology, Brunswick Campus.
“The Center of Excellence designation assures our patients that
they will receive the highest level of quality care from knowledgeable,
caring staff.”
The Breast Imaging Center is fully accredited in mammography, stereotactic
breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy.
The accreditation process consisted of peer-review evaluations by a team
of board-certified physicians and medical physicists.
The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000
diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear
medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on
the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery
of comprehensive health care services.
The BICOE designation is the latest achievement for Southeast Georgia
Health System. In April, the Joint Replacement Center received the United
Health Premium specialty center designation of Three Stars in recognition
of its quality care and cost efficiency.
