George Hardee was named Volunteer of the Quarter at the Southeast Georgia
Health System Brunswick Campus Auxiliary’s holiday luncheon on Thursday,
December 5, 2013. A member of the Auxiliary since March 2012, Hardee volunteers
most weekday afternoons in the Senior Care Center.
"Watching George interact with our residents is simply heartwarming,"
says Kristin Doll, director of Volunteer Services. "His compassion
and genuine interest in each person is evident and we are fortunate to
have him as part of our volunteer team."
After retiring, Hardee moved to Brunswick with his wife, Gloria Marjorie,
to help take care of his elderly parents. Following his father’s
death at age 101 and his mother’s at age 99, he decided to volunteer
at the Senior Care Center.
"I truly enjoy being with the residents and helping them," said
Hardee. "Whether it’s playing bingo or indoor baseball, helping
people is my hobby!"
Hardee also volunteers as a reading mentor at Altama Elementary School
and helps his neighbors get to their medical appointments.
More than 300 volunteers currently enjoy sharing their time and talents
to assist patients, visitors, and team members at the Southeast Georgia
Health System Brunswick and Camden campuses, as well as the Senior Care
Centers in Brunswick and St. Marys. To find out more about volunteer opportunities,
