BRUNSWICK, Georgia: June 18, 2012 —Southeast Georgia Health System
has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Mobile Digital
Mammography for its Wellness on Wheels (WOW) mobile health vehicle following
a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Digital mammography is one of the latest breast imaging technologies developed
to improve the detection of breast cancer. This front-line technology
uses a powerful computer to create superior, high-quality images of the
breast, increasing the physician’s ability to detect cancer earlier
when it is most treatable.
“We are very proud to have earned the accreditation and to offer
digital mammography to our communities,” says DelRia Baisden, vice
president, Southeast Georgia Health System. “By combining this extraordinary
technology with a dedicated health care team, we are providing our patients
the best chance for early detection of breast cancer.”
In addition to its many other screening and education services offered
on the WOW, the screening mammography is a key component of the Health
System’s Mammograms in Motion program. Developed with grant support
from the Susan G. Komen Foundation, this program aims to improve access
to breast health services for qualified uninsured or underinsured patients
living in Camden, Glynn, Long and McIntosh counties.
Outfitted with digital screening mammography, bone density screening, blood
pressure and blood glucose testing capability, the Health System’s
WOW mobile health vehicle provides services at health departments, industries
and businesses, health fairs, churches, and community events.
For more information on scheduled locations and dates, or if you would
like to schedule the WOW mobile health vehicle for your not-for-profit
event or to provide screenings to employees at your place of business,
please call the Health System’s Health Promotion and Wellness department
at 912-466-5160. For more information about low or no-cost mammograms
for uninsured or underinsured persons in Camden, Glynn, Long and McIntosh
counties, call 912-466-5234.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities
for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation
of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians
and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
