ST. MARYS, Georgia: Feb. 9, 2012 – Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Obstetrics
& Gynecology, a strategic affiliate of Southeast Georgia Health System,
has opened its practice in Camden County. The practice is located at 203
Lakeshore Point, St. Marys, across from the Health System’s Camden
Campus. The care team is led by board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist
Steve Nickisch, M.D., and certified nurse midwife Cynthia S. Wallace,
R.N., M.N., CNM.
Nickisch completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical science at Montana
State University before going on to earn his medical degree from the University
of New Mexico. He completed his internship and residency in obstetrics
and gynecology at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He began
his career in private practice in Asheville, N.C. where he was also a
member of the clinical faculty at the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Nickisch relocated to Bozeman, Mont. in 2003. Most recently he was a member
of Bozeman Deaconess Women’s Specialists and served as chief of
staff at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Included in his special areas of
expertise are treating urinary incontinence and endometriosis.
Nickisch is a fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology
and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. His advanced
post-graduate training includes advanced laparoscopic surgery and da Vinci
Robotic Surgery. He and his wife Kristi have been married for 26 years
and they have three children—Samantha, a nursing school student
at Colorado Tech University; Sarah, a junior at the Air Force Academy;
and Dylan, a high school sophomore.
Nickisch says he’s looking forward to living in St. Marys. “I’m
really looking forward to the warmer climate,” he says. “We
were drawn here because St. Marys has the same small-town friendly people
and feel that we had in Montana with the big city lights of Jacksonville
next door.”
While Nickisch is a newcomer to the area, Wallace is familiar to many women
in Camden County. She has worked and lived in the area since 2007 when
she joined the staff of St. Marys OB/GYN as a certified nurse midwife.
She completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Tuskegee University
in Tuskegee, Ala. in 1974. She completed her master’s degree in
nursing with a nurse midwifery specialty from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff
School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. in 1997. Wallace’s
previous experience includes working as a certified nurse midwife for
Cartersville OB-GYN in Cartersville, Ga. for almost 10 years. In addition
to providing care to expectant mothers, Wallace has experience treating
other gynecological diseases and providing menopause management care.
She and her husband Spencer have been married 13 years and share four children—Armand,
a teacher in Atlanta; Carmen, a teacher in Washington, D.C.; Victor, who
is pursuing a teaching degree in history; and Spencer II, who has a degree
in child psychology.
