BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Jan. 1, 2012 – Marquita Benton and Arnold Bland
of Brunswick welcome the newest addition to their family, Kevon Bland.
He arrived at 12:10 p.m. on New Year’s Day at the Southeast Georgia
Health System Miriam & Hugh Nunnally Maternity Care Center in Brunswick
as Glynn County’s first baby of 2012. His arrival took place just
10 minutes before the second baby of the year made her entrance. Little
Kevon was delivered by obstetrician/gynecologist Shirley Wilson, M.D.,
and weighed in at 6 lbs., 8 oz., and measured 19 inches long. He is the
couple’s first child. His proud grandparents are Linda Morrell,
Kevin Benton and Linda Washington, all of Brunswick, and his great-grandmother
is Estella Vereen, also of Brunswick.
Each year, more than 1,500 babies are born at the Miriam & Hugh Nunnally
Maternity Care Center, which was completely renovated and expanded in
2010. According to the new mother, she arrived at the Center shortly after
4 a.m. on New Year’s Day. However, she was surprised that Kevon
was the first baby of the year. “It was a long day,” she said,
smiling. “When the other lady came in, it almost felt like it was
a competition.”
To welcome Kevon, the Health System presented the happy parents with a
large gift basket full of gifts and baby care necessities from the Southeast
Georgia Health System Brunswick Campus Gift Shop. Pictured are the new
parents with their new bundle of joy. About Southeast Georgia Health System
