BRUNSWICK, Georgia: Feb. 6, 2012– Carlton A. DeVooght, FACHE, vice
president, general counsel, government relations, for Southeast Georgia
Health System was recently named to the University of Georgia’s
(UGA) Inaugural “40 Under 40.” DeVooght and his fellow honorees
were selected for the positive impact they have made in their respective
communities and the dedication they have shown to their alma mater.
DeVooght oversees the Legal, Real Estate, Medical Staff Services, Compliance,
Risk Management, Quality Improvement, Service Excellence and Government
Relations matters, as well as the Cancer Care Centers for the Health System.
Prior to joining the Health System, he was a partner with the law firm
of Gilbert, Harrell, Sumerford & Martin, P.C. in Brunswick. He graduated
magna cum laude from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s
degree in history and then went on to earn his juris doctorate from the
University of Georgia School of Law. DeVooght earned his master’s
degree in business administration with a focus in health care in May 2009
from Brenau University.
DeVooght’s community involvement includes a variety of professional
and civic organizations, including serving as past president of the Brunswick-Glynn
Bar Association, past president of the Glynn County Rotary Club, and past
chairman of the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce. Additionally,
he is a past board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeast Georgia,
the International Seafarers’ Center, the Coastal Medical Access
Project (CMAP), the Glynn County Library Board, and the Coastal Symphony.
He has also participated in Leadership Georgia, Leadership Southeast Georgia
and Leadership Glynn County. He is a Will Watts Fellow, a member of the
St. Simons United Methodist Church Council, and a Fellow of the American
College of Health Care Executives. Currently, he is serving on Insurance
Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ statewide Medical Provider Insurance
Advisory Committee, the STAR Foundation Board of Directors, the local
board of United Community Bank, and was recently appointed to the Board
of the Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys, a division of the Georgia
Hospital Association. In 2006, he won the Georgia Bar Association's
Justice Robert Benham Award for Community.
eVooght is married to the former Leslie Kirby and they have three children.
