BRUNSWICK, Georgia: June 24, 2011– Southeast Georgia Health System
is pleased to welcome Melody Thompson, FACHE, CMPE, as the new vice president
of Physician Practices for Cooperative Healthcare Services, Inc., a strategic
affiliate of the Health System.
Thompson earned her Bachelor’s degree in biology from Mary Washington
College in Fredericksburg, Va., and a Master’s in business administration
with a health care focus from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn.
She has 18 years of progressive responsibility and leadership experience
working with physician practice groups in various environments, including
academic, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Most recently,
she served as the vice president for Physician Services at University
Health Care System in Augusta, Ga.

executive team,” says Michael D. Scherneck, executive vice president
& CFO, Southeast Georgia Health System. “In her new role, she
will oversee the growing number of physician practices that are part of
the Health System, which has grown to more than 60 practitioners and will
continue to expand as we recruit more physicians to serve the needs of
our community.”
Thompson is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and
is also a certified member of the American College of Medical Practice
Executives. Additionally she graduated from Leadership Columbia County
and was a board member of the Augusta Metro YMCA, the Columbia County
Chamber of Commerce and the Evans Surgery Center. She has relocated to
the Golden Isles with her sons, Caleb and Liam.
